The Tchaikovsky Ball whisks you away to another century, complete with live orchestral music and period costumes on June 15, 2019, at the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam.

Visiting Tchaikovsky

Get to know him and his music. Become part of his life for one day. You probably know some of the works of the famous Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, such as the ballet Swan Lake, or some of his operas or symphonies. Or perhaps you have heard his music in the Disney movies Fantasia and Sleeping Beauty

On June 15, 2019, you can get to know these and other famous pieces of his in the Marble Hall and the 19th-century rooms of the impressive Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) in Amsterdam.

You can take part by getting dressed up as his good friend or neighbour and travelling by horse and carriage to visit Tchaikovsky and his entourage, together with hundreds of contemporaries and dozens of musicians.

Exciting cultural programme at the Tchaikovsky Ball

Expect to see and hear choirs, Russian folk music, ballet dancers and famous musicians at the Tchaikovsky Ball. Everyone will be dressed as though it were the 19th century, including you and your friends and children. In the evening, the ball starts, and with hundreds of admirers, you are submerged into the 19th-century atmosphere. With an extensive musical programme, stories, historical dancing and performances.
